🍣 My new favorite solo dining spot
9/27 - 10/2: Queer markets, natty wine club, & Melrose Hill Block Party
👋 OH HEY 👋
Mads here! The New York Times came out with this America’s Best Restaurants 2023 list, and these 3 LA spots made the list:
YESS, Arts District 🍣 A former Japanese food truck turned upscale seafood restaurant. I have yet to visit, but have heard excellent things.
Perilla LA, Echo Park 🍽️ A reimagination of traditional Korean banchan by chef Jihee Kim. That spicy beef dupbap is calling my name…
Quarter Sheets, Echo Park 🍕 I mean I’ve been a QS stan for a while now. Some of the best pan-style pizza in town and even better slices of cake.
Should I make a list of other restaurants I believe should have been included on this list? 👀
Okay, now on to the coolest things happening this week.

📍PLACES TO BE📍
New openings, places you should know about, what I’m adding to my starting lineup, etc.
Top Left: Sogo Roll Bar, Top Right: Desert 5 Spot, Bottom Left: Olivia, Bottom Right: La Fe
Sōgo Roll Bar, Los Feliz 🍣 I’m always on the hunt for a good solo dining spot, and Sōgo Roll Bar is one long cozy bar for you to eat yellowtail handrolls at, whether alone or with a date. Afterwards, pop over to Covell to wash down your spicy tuna crispy rice with a glass of orange wine.
Desert 5 Spot, Hollywood 🤠 You already know this spot, but I visited for the first time this past weekend for a birthday. Live music ALL night, which was such a treat. For serious country music fans only.
Valerie, Echo Park 🍪 This neighborhood cafe and bakery reminds me of something right out of Gilmore Girls (I keep mentioning GG in the newsletter, but I’m just feeling the fall vibes, okay?!)
Olivia, Koreatown 🍷 A wine bar and pizza spot? Yep, I’m there. Olivia just opened up in Koreatown, and I’ve been itching to try it out.
Skaf's, Highland Park 🍽️ Looking for Lebanese food? Skaf’s On York recently opened to get your lamb kebab fix.
La Fe, Echo Park 🍸 If you remember Ostrich Farm and Bar Calo, then you’ll love this: a new cocktail and food hangout by the same team.
