👭 Nancy Meyers or Nancy Silverton?

Oyster happy hour, cheap things to do, & a rollerskating dance party

Lemme explain the subject line of this email.

As you read on, you'll notice that I mention 2 very important Nancy's in my life: Nancy Meyers and Nancy Silverton. They both exude coastal grandma aesthetic and have such unique Los Angeles perspectives and impacts on the city. Anyways, I noticed a Nancy motif in this newsletter and thought to connect the dots in the intro. Now please carry on.

A little housekeeping news: I am off to Greece this week to live out my Mamma Mia summer, which means there won't be a newsletter next week because your girl is OOO 🌊

Expect some Santorini & Mykonos recs coming your way for you to save to your Camber profile for a future trip 🇬🇷

Okay, let's get to the going.

🗓️ THINGS TO DO 🗓️

  • 🍝 Stay in and watch the 2018 Evan Funke documentary. It follows the chef behind one of my top 3 restaurants in Los Angeles: Felix. It's an ode to the art of making handmade pasta and the LA food scene. Oh, and my lord and savior Nancy Silverton makes an appearance.

  • 🧘 Looking for inexpensive things to do in LA? Check out this article from the Los Angeles Times on fun things to do under $15 (like this pay-what-you-can sunset yoga class).

  • 🦪 Rappahannock at the ROW DTLA has a new summer happy hour every Monday - Thursday from 3-5 PM. I'm talking $2 oysters.

  • 🏃‍♀️ This is for the runners, so if you're not a runner, just keep reading. Venice Run Club hosts 3 runs a week: Track Tuesday, Mobbin Wednesday, and Long Run Saturday.

  • 🍻 So, you know Jameson's in Santa Monica? That Irish pub that plays live music and gets super rowdy at night? Well, they're celebrating National French Fry Day on Wednesday 7/13 and National Mac & Cheese Day on 7/14. Go crazy.

  • 🌮 Every Thursday through Saturday, the Mexican & Jewish inspired pop-up Malli is stationed at Melody (my fave). A pastrami taco? Yes, please.

  • Hi-Lo Market in Culver City is hosting some free raicilla, sparkling mead, and cider tastings this weekend. Peep here for the lineup.

  • ⛸️ This weekend from 7/15 - 7/17, you can roller skate at FIGat7th at their outdoor rink. There will also be a dance floor and beer garden. I've got my eye on the themed 2000s night on Sunday...

📍PLACES TO BE📍

Jyan Isaac Bread

Santa Monica

In the words of Oprah Winfrey, "I LOVE BREAAAAD"...and Jyan Isaac's may just be the best in LA 🥖

What started as a pandemic project by 19-year-old Jyan has turned into one of the best bakeries in the city. He used to work at Gjusta, so he knows his sh*t.

Oh, and you have to get a dozen everything bagels. They put seasoning on both the top and bottom of the bagel, which is something that every bagel place simply needs to implement.

Cookbook Market

Echo Park & Highland Park

When I finally visited Cookbook Market, it was like stepping into a Nancy Meyers movie. You know, the one Diane Keaton goes to in Something's Gotta Give? Which was apparently filmed in Ina Garten's (now closed) Hamptons store. This is all very on brand 🥬

This mini market is filled with responsibly grown, super tasty produce, meats, cheese, and bread. And duh, there's a bunch of natural wine. Why would you even ask that?

The Landsby

Solvang

For anyone looking to get away from LA for the weekend, staying in Solvang at The Landsby is your answer 🛎️

I geek out over Scandinavian design, so I fit right in at this boutique hotel. They have a courtyard perfect for drinking wine and playing Rummikub in the evenings. Also, there's a stellar restaurant and bar on site called Mad & Vin. You can book your stay here.

You can check out my Santa Ynez Valley guide here for recs on what to do nearby.

💬 ONE FINAL THING 💬

See ya around,
