๐ How far would you drive for In-N-Out?
Free outdoor jazz, indie bookstores, & a flower truck
It's one of my favorite brunch holidays this week: Mother's Day! Impress a mom in your life by getting that rez in advance.
Also in honor of moms, I am delighted to learn that the "coastal grandma aesthetic" is now a trend. I rounded up my favorite places in LA to go to when you wanna feel like you're in a Nancy Meyers movie.

Okay, let's get to the going.
๐๏ธ THINGS TO DO ๐๏ธ
๐๏ธ Supporting small businesses is my love language. That's why I'm beyond excited for Unique Market's LA Spring Market this Saturday, May 7th and Sunday, May 8th. They've curated over 150 emerging brands and designers to be showcased at this cute af market. Oh, also Uncle Paulie's and Chifa will be providing grub, so...
๐ฅพ Hike Clerb, the intersectional womenโs hike club, is hosting a Mother's Day nature walk and picnic with Ergobaby on Saturday, May 7th at 11 AM in Calabasas! The event is open to Black, Indigenous, moms of color in the community and their little ones.
๐บ You know what I love more than live jazz? Free live jazz. Every Friday, LACMA puts on an outdoor jazz concert. It's open seating, and you can bring a picnic. Tender.
๐ฒ Okay okay so remember when I mentioned Second Home last week? Well, they're putting on this cool (free!) event on Wednesday, May 4th called, "LA Food in the โ80s and โ90s with Evan Kleiman." There will be a panel of Gen X chefs followed by a tasting led by Courtney Storer (*ahem ahem* the Culinary Director of Jon & Vinny's). It's going to be epic.
๐ One of my favorite indie bookstores, Skylight Books, is having an in-store event on Wednesday, May 4th to promote Jessi Klein's second essay collection, I'll Show Myself Out. She'll be in conversation with the hilarious Casey Wilson.
๐ฅฏ In reference to the best rom-com of all time, Skirball is putting on an exhibit called โIโll Have What Sheโs Havingโ: The Jewish Deli. It's an ode to the Jewish Deli and its unique American history. There better be a full Katz's Deli set so I can recreate that scene from When Harry Met Sally.
๐ฑ Interested in an outdoor gallery / garden / immersive nature experience? Of course you are because you're sophisticated and enjoy fresh air. Head to one of the new garden exhibits at Descanso Gardens.
๐PLACES TO BE๐
Johnny's Pastrami
West Adams
Everyone drop everything and go to Johnny's Pastrami. I mean only if you're a meat lover though lol.
This Los Angeles-establishment recently got a facelift, and they've added this incredible patio along with the coolest bar called...wait for it...The Bar.
Don't miss out on the pastrami by the pound (of c) and bbq brisket sandwich. And why donโt you throw some Matzo Ball soup in there too for good measure?
Eyes Peeled
La Cienega Heights
I almost didn't want to include this coffee shop because it's such a hidden gem, but I don't gatekeep. Eyes Peeled is simply the best neighborhood coffee shop with the most friendly staff (hi Esther and Gavy!). They have ample chairs with backs (a pre-requisite for my boyfriend) to work from.
Don't you dare leave without trying the Georgia on my Mind.
Lenita Flower Truck by Grita
Arts District
Okay, here's my love letter to Lenita Flower Truck. If you're getting flowers for a mom in your life this week, this charming truck will be parked outside of Zinc Cafe & Market in the Arts District on Sunday, May 8th.
The founder Nemuel is usually the one hand-tying the arrangements and driving around town, so be sure to say hi!
๐ฌ ONE FINAL THING ๐ฌ
See ya around,
